100 years of art in Thuringia

Kunsthalle Recklinghausen
September 18 – November21, 2021

The exhibition, organised in cooperation with the Kunstverein Schmalkalden, Recklinghausen's twin town, sheds light on an exciting period in German art history: art in Thuringia over the last one hundred years has been characterised by upheaval, diaspora and retreat, loss and new beginnings and the struggle for artistic positions. The exhibition spans an arc from the Bauhaus years in Weimar to the National Socialist era, Germany's new beginning after 1945, the GDR period and German reunification right up to the present day.
