In the Cabinet – Paola Siri Renard

7 July - 4 August 2024

With the exhibition format ‘In the cabinet’, in 2022 the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen has launched a new series that brings a work or a group of works directly from an art academy to Recklinghausen. Once a year the academies open their studios for a few days and all the students, especially the graduating classes, present themselves to the public – usually a long-awaited date in the annual art calendar.

This summer, the works of Paola Siri Renard (*1993 in Paris) will be on display. After studying with Professor Rita McBride at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she first received a scholarship at the HISK (Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten) in Ghent and Brussels and will take part in the residency programme at WIELS – Centre for Contemporary Art in Brussels from July 2024.

Renard's sculptures sit on walls or nestle against the floor like artefacts. Hybrid ornaments lie on the ground as gleaming white objects several metres in size. Eventually her idea of simulation or dissimulation functions as a means to talk about architectures and their systems of power. Furthermore, how she uses archival knowledge to propose speculative metamorphosis make her works fascinating and unique.

We cordially invite you to the opening on Saturday, July 6 at 5 pm.
