Ulrich Meister
Das Gelbe vom Ei

February 16 - April 5, 2020

Ulrich Meister (*1947 Schaffhausen/Switzerland) moved to Düsseldorf in 1967 after an apprenticeship as a typesetter to study painting and sculpture with Joseph Beuys at the art academy there from 1968 to 1973. He has lived and worked in Düsseldorf ever since.

Ulrich Meister celebrated his international breakthrough at Documenta IX in Kassel in 1992, when he combined seemingly insignificant everyday objects - a net of potatoes, a clothes horse with a coat hanger hanging from it - with precise poetic descriptions that went beyond their functional context and utility value, thus questioning the relationship between image and word. Ulrich Meister is still fascinated by the contrasting tension between object or image and text today. The succinct depiction of the everyday world surrounding him retains its poetic magic and poses the philosophical question of the nature of things both humorously and seriously.

With paintings and works on paper from the last twenty years to the present day, the exhibition provides a comprehensive insight into Ulrich Meister's artistic work.
