May 15 - September 13, 2015

Contemporary Art from China shown at Rhine and Ruhr

Eight cities at Rhine and Ruhr, nine museums, 80 artists - the exhibition CHINA 8 is the most volumnious survey on contemporary chinese art in Germany.

Notable artists as well as younger and emerging positions will be shown during the exhibition. Nine museums from Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Hagen, Marl, Mülheim an der Ruhr and Recklinghausen bonded over the idea of a collective project. From May 15 until September 13, 2015 works from the diciplines of painting, photography, calligraphy, ink painting, sculptour, installation and video will be shown. The Eight in the title of the exhibition does not only refer to the participating cities, but is also an important chinese lucky number.

Within the project the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen presents contemporary chinese paintings. The Stiftung für Kunst und Kultur Bonn e.V. is the main organizer of the exhibition, while it is sponsored by the Brost-Stiftung and the Evonik Industries AG. Exclusive partners are Finnair Plc and the Airport Duesseldorf.

During the period of the exhibition there will be a shuttle bus connecting all the museums - free of charge.

If you want to experience several stations of the China 8 exhibition, you can also travel through the dense cultural landscape of the Rhine and Ruhr. The museum shuttles take visitors from one exhibition venue to another in comfort at weekends. On presentation of a museum ticket valid for the day or a combined ticket, travel on all China 8 shuttle buses is free of charge. Each bus is accompanied by a guide. This gives visitors initial information about the exhibitions that await them at their destination on their way to the museums. The exact timetables are also available at the Kunsthalle and can be downloaded from the China 8 website.
